Nearby Glentrool, a favourite with our guests, is situated only a 10 minute drive away in the Galloway Forest Park, to the South East of Barrhill. This beautiful spot is popular for all types of outdoor activities including cycle routes, picnic areas, walking and hiking.

The Merrick (2764 ft) is the highest summit in the Southern Uplands. On a clear day the fantastic views of the surrounding hills and countryside of Ayrshire and Galloway Blair Farm - overnight accommodation for Walking and Cycling Holidays in Scotland- extending to Ailsa Craig, Isle of Arran, Northern Ireland and Northern England are well worth the climb.

The Southern Upland Way (click for link) is a 212 mile walk from Portpatrick on the West Coast to Cockburnspath on the East Coast and passes through Glentrool. We are more than happy to collect walkers and return them the following morning to continue on their walk.

For Birdwatching, the RSPB Reserve - The Wood of Cree - is just 3 miles north of Newton Stewart on the East Bank of the River Cree. This is a peaceful spot with a pleasant woodland walk.

The most southerly point in Scotland is the Mull of Galloway, another RSPB Reserve. The cliffs are home to thousands of breeding seabirds, a must for the Bird Watching Enthusiast.
